How the list is built

Transparent, verifiable, never for sale
01
Scored out of 100, public criteria
Google reviews (35) · experience (30) · active licence (15) · local presence (15) · distinctions (5). Published from 70/100. The same calculation for everyone.
02
Verified, then Recommended
Payotte editorially names the #1 in each sector (Verified). When the expert confirms their own profile, it becomes Recommended. No spot can be bought.
03
Independent and free
No ads, no commission on your transactions. The profile stays free; Payotte is funded through visibility exchange and future optional services. A profile below the threshold goes back to review.

Frequently asked questions

Everything about Payotte
Is it really free?

Yes — for everyone. Payotte is free for visitors, but also for the experts: the highest-ranked professional in each sector is listed without paying a cent. No ads, no referral commissions, no spot for sale. See our model and method in detail.

How is each sector's expert chosen?

Every professional — REALTOR® or real estate agent, mortgage broker, home inspector, real estate lawyer, appraiser — is scored out of 100: Google reviews, years of experience, a provincial licence checked on the public register, local presence and distinctions. The highest-rated in each sector becomes Verified (Payotte's editorial pick); when the expert confirms their own profile, it becomes Recommended. See the 100-point grid, how to verify a licence, or our guide on choosing a real estate broker.

What's the difference between a "Verified" and a "Recommended" expert?

Verified: Payotte editorially names the #1 in a sector, on verified results (reviews, experience, active licence). Recommended: that same expert has confirmed their own profile. Either way, the spot can't be bought and the profile stays free — our method.

What are the closing costs and land transfer tax in Canada?

They vary widely by province — from a few hundred dollars in Alberta (no land transfer tax) to several thousand in Toronto or Montreal. Our page on closing costs and land transfer tax by province breaks down the amounts and official rates, with sources.

What if no expert is verified in my sector?

If no candidate meets the quality threshold with verifiable data, the listing shows "not available" rather than an unreliable recommendation. Sectors fill in as verifications are completed — browse the cities covered.

I'm a professional — how do I get listed?

Get in touch through the Contact page. Listing is based solely on verifiable results, never on payment: for the highest-ranked expert in a sector, the profile is and stays free.

Are you the expert in your sector?

Payotte lists only one verified professional per sector, chosen on merit — never on a subscription. Their verified profile is built to be cited by Google and AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity) as the reference for their sector. Think you're the top reference in your neighbourhood?
