A. The composite portrait: a well-reviewed veteran
The idea of a directory full of newcomers is wrong. The expert Payotte selects in each sector shows a median 18 years of experience, a median score of 77/100 and a solid online reputation (~107 median Google reviews). Of 664 published profiles, 459 reach the "Verified" tier (≥ 70/100) and 66 were confirmed directly by the professional. National coverage reaches 92% of slots (sector × profession).
B. The gap by profession
This is where the average misleads. The median home inspector has 196 Google reviews; the certified appraiser, only 21 — despite being the most experienced (22 median years). Appraisers aren't worse: they work B2B (lenders, lawyers, courts), a world without Google reviews. We devoted a full study to this.
| Profession | Experts | Median score | Median Google reviews | Median experience |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Real-estate broker | 143 | 81/100 | 124 | 17 yrs |
| Mortgage broker | 135 | 81/100 | 164 | 16 yrs |
| Home inspector | 132 | 76.5/100 | 196 | 17 yrs |
| Notary / lawyer | 141 | 75/100 | 71 | 17 yrs |
| Certified appraiser | 113 | 70/100 | 21 | 22 yrs |
C. The provincial ranking
The median score of verified experts varies by province. Top: Alberta (82/100). Bottom: Newfoundland and Labrador (59/100). An 23-point spread — modest but real, and driven mostly by how much public data each jurisdiction publishes.
| Rank | Province | Experts | Median score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alberta | 97 | 82/100 |
| 2 | Ontario | 203 | 78/100 |
| 3 | British Columbia | 102 | 77.5/100 |
| 4 | Manitoba | 28 | 75/100 |
| 5 | New Brunswick | 14 | 75/100 |
| 6 | Quebec | 170 | 73.5/100 |
| 7 | Saskatchewan | 22 | 73.5/100 |
| 8 | Nova Scotia | 20 | 73/100 |
| 9 | Prince Edward Island | 4 | 67/100 |
| 10 | Newfoundland and Labrador | 4 | 59/100 |
Methodology
Sample: the best-verified expert per market (one per city × sector × profession), published — 664 profiles. Scores /100 combine Google reviews (35), experience (30), active licence on the register (15), local presence (15) and a bonus (5). Medians computed over profiles where the data is public and verifiable. Captured: 2026. No invented or extrapolated data; every figure is reproducible from the profiles. This is not a random survey of the profession — it's a portrait of the experts Payotte selects.

No. They cover the 664 experts Payotte selects — one per sector, the best-verified. It's a portrait of the "best of each market", not a profession-wide average.
Because they work B2B — lenders, lawyers, courts — who don't leave Google reviews. It's not a sign of low quality, just a different reputation channel.
