In short
In Wallonia, the temporary scheme of Habitation grants (primes Habitation) had to be applied for by 30 September 2026 at the latest. According to the Walloon Government, it is replaced by a new loan scheme (Rénopack and Rénoprêt) adopted for 1 October 2026. In Brussels, the Renolution grants have not reopened: the official website states that there is no Government decision on new support. In Flanders, the grant is called Mijn VerbouwPremie. In all three Regions, the home must be old and the works carried out by professionals.
Wallonia: from grant to loan
Until 30 September 2026, the “temporary support scheme 2025-2026” (in force since 14 February 2025) made it possible to obtain Habitation grants. According to the SPW Énergie page (the Walloon public service for energy), every application, final invoice included, had to be submitted by 30 September 2026 at the latest. Processing of the 2025-2026 applications begins after the applications under the 2023 scheme have been examined.
For what comes next, the Walloon Government’s press release of 16 July 2026 announces the entry into force of a new scheme on 1 October 2026. The system of more than 120 grants is abandoned in favour of a single tool: the loan. It has two parts:
- the Rénopack: a zero-rate loan with a reduction of the amount to repay, comparable to a subsidy. It targets households in income categories C1, C2 and C3;
- the Rénoprêt: a loan at a preferential rate, reserved for households in category C4, landlords and associations of co-owners.
The text specifies that the support is calculated on all eligible works together, and no longer item by item. According to wallonie.be (page updated on 25 September 2026), the Walloon Government has “definitively adopted the terms of the new support scheme”, which “will come into force on 1 October 2026”.
Wallonia: the income categories of the new scheme
The press release gives the following scale, for incomes indexed to 1 January 2026:
| Category | Income | Rate | Reduction of the amount to repay |
|---|---|---|---|
| C1 | up to €28,900 | 0% | 50% |
| C2 | from €28,900.01 to €41,100 | 0% | 40% |
| C3 | from €41,100.01 to €67,100 | 0% | 15% |
| C4 | from €67,100.01 to €122,800 | variable | 0% |
A deduction of €5,000 from income is provided per dependant. The reduction is increased by 5% if eco-materials are used.
Wallonia: conditions and audit
The new scheme targets “energy sieves”:
- a home with an EPB label (PEB) of G or F must reach at least label D (ESPEC of 340 kWh/m².year at most);
- a home with EPB label E must reach at least label C (ESPEC of 255 kWh/m².year at most).
The amount that can be borrowed for a single-family house is €75,000 (€60,000 previously). For co-ownerships, the private parts can receive up to €60,000 per dwelling if the household’s income does not exceed €122,800.
An audit before the works is required to access the loans. For C1 households, the energy assessment linked to the Rénopack can serve as the audit. Under the old scheme, the housing audit (audit Logement) was already required, except for the roof and roof or attic insulation, and works could only begin after the report had been registered. The audit report must be less than one year old at the time of the application. Without a recent audit, the lending body can estimate the EPB label for C1 applicants. From 1 October 2026, support relies on existing services: Guichets Énergie Wallonie (energy advice desks), Espaces Wallonie (regional information offices) and local energy renovation platforms. To find out where exactly to submit the application, contact one of these desks.
Under the old scheme, the basic conditions included: a building in Wallonia (excluding the German-speaking Community) built at least 15 years earlier, an applicant holding a real right in the property, works carried out by a contractor registered with the Banque-Carrefour des Entreprises (Crossroads Bank for Enterprises) and the electrical and gas installations brought into compliance before the “Works” grant application.
Brussels: Renolution on hold, loans and VAT
Renolution has been the regional grant scheme since 1 January 2022. The official website states: “To date, there is no government decision regarding possible new forms of financial support”. Applications for a 2024 final invoice are closed, and no application is possible for final invoices from 2025 or 2026.
The conditions of the old scheme (2024) give an idea of what might return, with no guarantee: building over 10 years old, works by a company registered with the BCE, application after the works within 12 months of the final invoice, via IRISbox (the Brussels online services portal). For the energy audit (grant A1), the 2024 amount was €400 per single-family house.
The regional be.brussels page also describes a renovation loan at a preferential rate (from 2.5% to 3.5%) open to owners, future owners and tenants, for insulation, ventilation, heating, solar panels and other works. It also mentions 6% VAT instead of 21% for certain works, if the property is over 10 years old, is mainly used as a private home and the invoice is addressed to the final consumer.
Flanders
Mijn VerbouwPremie is the Flemish renovation grant: owners can apply for it for their main residence or for other homes in Flanders. The conditions and amounts in force are to be read on vlaanderen.be.
The steps in practice
- Check the scheme in force on the date of the works, on the Region’s website.
- In Wallonia, have the audit carried out by an approved auditor before starting the works.
- Ask for quotes from contractors registered with the BCE.
- Do not sign a works contract without knowing the support actually available.
This guide is general and does not replace the advice of the regional services.
What it costs
The loan ceiling of €75,000 for a single-family house in Wallonia is a maximum amount, not an average cost. In Brussels, the renovation loan announced at between 2.5% and 3.5% comes on top of the cost of the works. To measure the effect on your budget, see your borrowing capacity and calculate your purchase costs if you renovate after a purchase.
Which professionals to consult
- An approved housing auditor (Wallonia) or a recognised energy auditor (Brussels) to draw up the works programme.
- An EPB certificate, issued by an approved EPB assessor (certificateur PEB), to know the home’s current label.
- A registered contractor, listed with the Banque-Carrefour des Entreprises.
- An architect or an engineer for major works.
- A notary for questions linked to buying a property to renovate.
